What is PottyBody?

The Skinny

Several years ago, I tore my Achilles tendon. I was in a cast for 3 months and in a “boot” (walking cast) for an additional month. To make matters worse, I couldn’t drive for several weeks. I quickly realized that any trips to the health club would be difficult if not impossible.

Location, Location, Location

I had some exercise equipment around the house (dumbbells, resistance bands, medicine ball, etc.) and decided to perform various upper body exercises to maintain some level of fitness. I remember attempting to do some simple resistance exercises, but couldn’t put any weight on my injured leg. Needing something sturdy to anchor my bands, I decided to wrap a resistance band around the base of my toilet. I was able to do several exercises while seated on, and standing in front of the toilet. After a few sets, I grabbed a pair of dumbbells and started performing most of the exercises that I normally did at the gym. I left the equipment in the bathroom for subsequent visits………planned and unplanned.

During my recuperation from surgery, I was able to maintain muscle tone and decrease my body fat percentage. There were other factors involved in my “fitness success”, but the daily reminders (on every trip to the bathroom) kept me motivated. It also made me realize that staying fit and being fit were more a function of what I did rather than where I did it.

Best Seat in the House

It is obvious that most of the exercises you find at PottyBody.com can be performed outside of the bathroom. Having your exercise area in a room that you’ll likely visits at some point during the day is an added plus. Fitness plays such a key role in determining longevity and the quality of life. We need to be reminded of that everyday.

Before beginning any exercise program, consult a physician or other qualified health care provider. A physician or other health care provider can determine what type of exercise, the frequency, and the intensity are appropriate for each individual. A physician or other health care provider may be able to recommend an exercise program that will cater to a person's specific heath concerns and needs.
